Indigo Rose is a new release from the breeding program of Dr. Jim Myers at Oregon State University. This tomato is the result of ten years of hybridizing. Dr. Myers continuously evaluated the fields for color, flavor, and yields in an effort to produce the first high anthocyanin tomato. From fighting cancer to fighting wrinkles, anthocyanins are regarded as one of the benefits of deeply colored fruits and vegetables. Indigo Rose is reputed to have as much as 20% the anti-oxidants of blueberries!

 

Did we mention that this variety is stunning! Here's a black tomato with a true jet-black color where sunshine hits to red-orange where a leaf or stem shades an area of the fruit. The flavor is good, strongly acidic and when sliced it looks just like a plum with its deep red flesh. The two-ounce cocktail-sized fruits are excellent in salads, for snacking or canning. Inderminate. 80 days.
