Amish Paste tomatoes are teardrop or heart-shaped with a brilliant red-orange color and have a good balance of acid and sweetness.  When it is sliced fresh, the juicy flesh sparkles and has a solid texture that makes it an excellent choice for sauce or fresh eating. It is also a superb canning tomato.

It was first listed in the 1987 Seed Savers Exchange Yearbook by Thane Earl of Whitewater, Wisconsin.  Tom Hauch of Heirloom Seeds, who acquired it from the Amish near Lancaster, PA was the first to commercialize the variety. Amish Paste is one of the few paste-type tomatoes that will thrive in short summer areas.
